Sharing Circles at Flawless Aesthetic Clinic, with my Nurse Sarah Barker, holistic and mental health nurse hat on, I will be hosting confidential sharing circles on a monthly basis.

In a sharing circle, people gather and share their experiences to get off of their burdens and get collective help from others, and acts as a way of showing support to others.

What is a sharing circle?

A sharing circle is a group practice where individuals gather in a circle to openly share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with one another, usually with the intention of creating a safe space for deep listening and mutual understanding, where each person speaks without interruption and is actively listened to by the others; it’s often rooted in indigenous traditions and emphasises respect for each person’s perspective and story.  Sharing circles facilitate a deep sense of community and understanding.

Key points about sharing circles:

  • Structure:Participants sit in a circle to facilitate eye contact and equal participation.
  • Active listening:The primary focus is on listening attentively to the person speaking without judgment or interruption.
  • Sharing format:Each person takes turns sharing their thoughts or experiences for a designated amount of time.
  • Intentionality:Sharing circles can be focused on a specific topic or open to any personal reflection.

Why people participate in sharing circles:

  • Deep connection: To build stronger relationships and foster empathy by sharing personal experiences in a sharing circle.
  • Emotional processing: To express and work through emotions in a supportive environment.
  • Personal growth: To gain insights into oneself and others through shared experiences.
  • Community building: To create a sense of belonging and shared understanding within a group.

A talking stick

Everyone gets a chance to hold a Talking Stick or item and share their thoughts and feelings. When a person is holding the talking stick or item, they speak from the heart without interruption. Other people in the circle respectfully listen to the speaker and take in their message. The talking stick is a vital part of the sharing circle.

Although it is very different to the cosmetic treatments I do, we will discuss medical issues like, menopause, stress, and mental wellbeing. I feel passionately that mental health is just as important so I hope you will enjoy taking part in the sharing circle.
