September is Urology Awareness Month, which is actually very fitting with the crazy last month I’ve experienced following a kidney stone diagnosis.
As some of you know already, I’ve learnt many lessons this month about my body and the importance of drinking water. But I wanted to explain just how important it is and why it might actually benefit your skin and boost treatment results too!
Let’s get into it…
Hydration for health
In short, water supports your kidney function, reduces the risk of UTIs and kidney stones, and helps your body flush out toxins. Even mild dehydration can cause fatigue, headaches, and brain fog.
Adults should drink at least 2L (roughly 6-8 glasses) every day, however, if like me, you have suffered from kidney stones or have a certain condition that requires you to drink even more water, you may need to drink anywhere from 3-4L per day. Plain water is the best option, but if you like something a little more exciting now and again, the recommended amount can include things like diluted squash, certain sugar-free drinks, lower-fat milk, and tea.
Hydration for your skin
Once you start to drink enough water to keep your body hydrated all day, you’ll start to notice changes in your complexion too! Your skin will appear more plump, elastic, and glowing. Dehydrated skin can look dull and dry, and even the best skincare won’t absorb properly without enough water!
Hydration to boost treatment results
The majority of aesthetic treatments can benefit from better hydration. For example, Skin Boosters need water to deliver radiance, injectables will heal more smoothly, and redness and tenderness from a Microneedling session will recover even faster.
So, if you need a sign to drink more water – this is the one!
