WHAT IS PROFHILO®?

Profhilo is a revolutionary non-surgical skin booster and laxity treatment to address facial lines and wrinkle, but also skin laxity, improving tone, texture and hydration.

The treatment is fantastic for patients who have visible signs of ageing skin.

For Profhilo® to be effective a course of two to three treatments is generally recommended for best results. If you are under 45 with good skin elasticity, two treatments of Profhilo® will suffice.

As we age, our skin produces less collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are the building blocks which make up plumped up healthy skin. Profhilo® uses advanced patented technologies to help remodel the skin. It is made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA).

So what exactly is Hyaluronic Acid and why is it so beneficial?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring, gel-like substance in our skin which acts like a sponge. It is holding in moisture and making our skin appear plump, smooth and hydrated. Unfortunately, as we get older the body slows down its production of this vital ingredient. This results in a visible loss of firmness, pliability and suppleness.

So it’s no surprise that the cosmetic industry is seeking ways to replenish and restore the skin by adding hyaluronic acid to creams, serums and treatments.

What are skin boosters?

Skin boosters increase the production of natural collagen and elastin to re-energise and renew the skin. It stimulates four different types of collagen and elastin due to the slow release of hyaluronic acid, and it is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality. Profhilo®, at present, is the only product capable of stimulating the natural production of all four types of collagen and elastin, making it truly unique.

Compared to dermal fillers, Profhilo® enhances stem cell reproduction. It restores both skin and fat layers to their natural state, and stimulates the body to produce four collagen types. Unlike dermal fillers it does not provide volume. Profhilo® can be used in a number of areas, where fillers are unsuitable such as body areas.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A skin laxity treatment, profhilo patented technologies engineered for ‘skin remodelling’, a revolutionary concept of ‘curling’ wrinkles rather than ‘filling’ them. It effectively stimulates production of both your natural collagen and elastin to renew your skin from within. Taking as little as 10 minutes to complete, this hyaluronic acid treatment works by stimulating 4 different types of collagen and elastin due to the slow release of hyaluronic acid, and it is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality.

Rather than replacing volume or creating a volumetric lift like other dermal fillers Profhilo® creates volume in the tissue where it is needed due to its high spreadability.

This characteristic of Profhilo makes it an ideal treatment for improving elasticity and tightening areas such as the neck, around the mouth and hands without giving an artificially enhanced appearance.

Most clients request Profhilo treatments in the submalar area (between the cheek and chin) to tighten skin and lift jowls. Profhilo will result in significantly noticeable skin tightening and give you a lifting effect between your cheek and chin in just 12 weeks (you will see a gradual improvement throughout). We advise that you have three treatments four weeks apart.

Are you a CANDIDATE FOR PROFHILO?

We start losing a significant amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid after we reach 30, and it is at this age that we start to consider preventative treatments.

This is the time when many people consider their first anti-wrinkle injections as the first lines start to appear. If you feel your facial tissue quality has dropped significantly, and that you may look older for your age, but are not ready for dermal fillers yet, Profhilo® may be the best treatment for you.

There is no age upper limit either. In fact, in older patients, we have often seen more dramatic results. If you’re over 60 your and there are deep folds present or skin has lost elasticity, then combination treatments that include Profhilo® may be more suitable. This is why a consultation with Dr. Kelleher prior to treatment is so important.

You will love the subtle results

If you’re looking for very subtle results, this treatment delivers. However, if you’re looking to lift the face or neck, a combination approach with fillers or threads is advised.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM Profhilo TREATMENT?

After a consultation I can apply a numbing cream to the area to make the treatment more comfortable. Profhilo® diffuses within the tissue after injection. Over a period of 4 weeks it stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin.

There is no need to massaged and leaves no nodules. Due to its ability to spread, only 5 injection points on either side of the face are needed. This means many patients find this treatment more comfortable than others so numbing cream is unnecessary.

The first 2ml of Profhilo® is then injected using a technique called BAP (BIO AESTHETIC POINTS).

The BAP technique is 5 entry points of injection for each side of the face.

Immediately after treatment there may be some redness at the injection site. You may experience some itching, tenderness and swelling in the treated area. This will generally disappear within 24-hours.

Results can be immediate.

Client’s have noticed visible, natural-looking yet noticeable rejuvenation of the areas treated straight away after treatment. Increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of the skin can be visible for up to six months’ post-treatment.

Profilo® is not to be used in individuals with hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

For best results we recommend injecting Profhilo, 2ml in the initial treatment and a further 2ml monthly for two months.

In some cases, where signs of ageing are more extreme, up to 8ml of product spread over 4 treatments may be required.

Hyaluronic acid is completely broken down within the skin leaving no trace. To keep the results a maintenance treatment every six months is necessary.

You can have Profhilo® treatment and continue with your day to day activities.

It is recommended not to apply makeup or go to the gym, sauna, steam-room or swim on the same day as treatment. You should also avoid touching the injection site.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED with Profhilo?

Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also effectively be used for rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands.

Increasingly, the neck is becoming a popular area to have Profhilo, due to its ability to help reduce crepe-like skin and sagginess, and encourage a firmer appearance.

IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?

Profhilo® was launched in February 2015 in Italy. It’s been used worldwide ever since. Over 150,000 patients have been treated so far with no adverse reactions reported. From a safety perspective, Profhilo® is highly biocompatible.

It is made from ultrapure, natural Hyaluronic Acid, stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions. The product has also won numerous awards.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROFHILO® AND DERMAL FILLERS?

Due to the way that Profhilo® is formulated, it is not a volumising treatment in the same way that dermal fillers are.

,Also it is not used to enhance specific areas of the face (e.g. lips, cheeks, chin).

Profhilo® is primarily a hydrating treatment, the Hyaluronic Acid it contains is dispersed evenly throughout the face, giving your skin a more plump and firm look overall.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO SEE AFTER TREATMENT?
